Hungarian dubbing dialogues of the Netflix hit Boy Swallows Universe are my work. I was happy to get into an 80s story, taking a lot of care covering Australian slang and references woven into this literary adaptation.
I started writing Hungarian voiceover dialogues for interior design-themed reality shows as a mission, as loan translations freaked me out too many times when watching these. Many spaces of a US home are just not part of European or Hungarian homes, also, translators many times have no clues of what terrazzo actually is or do not give a heck if “stucco” means something totally else in America than in the European Baroque style.
Instead of inventing dumb neologisms, I try my best to deliver creative and competent conversations in Hungarian. My latest job completed is Rock the Block Season 4 (HGTV).
Hungarian Netflix released this Swedish miniseries about the man inspiring the name Stockholm syndrome with the dialogues written by me in spring 2022. Thrown in the deep end in my very first dubbing dialogue writing job, I used both the English and the Swedish dialogue lists to save as many cultural references as possible, and I used the Hungarian slang of the decades the show depicts.
